Hi,
Have just spent hours searching the internet and this forum, but am still seeking inspiration - I need a really cool present for my nephew's birthday (5 year old boy). As I don't have any kids myself I am not very good at this.
So thought maybe those of you who have/ have had 5 year olds might be able to inspire me!
Many thanks for your suggestions!
Mark.

you really need to know what he is into. what do u see him playing with most often? does he like books? all the boys i know like cars. or if u r lucky enough to find a rocket zoomer in poundstretchers/instore reduced to 75p as i did these are fab - u stand on a pump & air shoots a foam rocket in the air. my friend has one that kept kids aged from 2 to 11 entertained for hours!Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!0

Hi, how much did you want to spend? I have a 6 yr old so may have some ideas

I like the stomp rocket idea, thanks (haven't seen them for 75p though, will have to check my local pound shops!) Cheapest online seems to be at least £7 + delivery.
The problem is I have never met my nephew as my sister lives in South Africa, of course I can ask my sister what he is into but then she says she "doesn't expect me to buy anything" or "don't spend too much", but I think it's quite good fun buying presents for your nephew with the added surprise of a parcel coming from overseas.
So as for how much to spend - anything up to £25 is fine, as long as it is not too heavy obviously as it needs to go by airmail post...
Thanks for the replies so far."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the

Okay, I have tried to think of a few things that are not too heavy, how about a couple of Beyblades - my son loves those, or some YU-Gi-Oh trading cards, top trumps - not sure of they have those is SA?0

Tesco do the rocket launcher thing too - my son got several for his birthday and we had to take two back - one to Tesco - one to ELC. What about walkie talkies - my son loves his. I got his from Boots (Thomas the Tank) reduced from £10 to £2.50. I know Disney had some Incredibles ones a few months back - don't know how heavy these would be to post. What about looking at online shops in South Africa and then you could get it delivered locally - although maybe more exciting getting all the way from UK.0

My son likes Thomas the tank engine dvds, they are usually on BOGOF in Asda / Sainsbury etc.
Any disney film dvd, though you need to check what he already has I guess.
Cars and trains - what about a traditional red double decker bus, typical british lorries/cars, car + caravan etc. you can never have too many toy cars, apparently.
Traditional English style books like Topsy & Tim, or fairy stories that come with a cd to listen to aswell (sold in M&S for example)
Disney bedding or dressing-up outfit or pj's such as Buzz Lightyear
A football strip of your favourite team
That's my ideas for now

What about a subscription to a comic or kids magazine. Kids love getting stuff through the post and with a subscription he'll get something every month.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0
