There seem to be two possibilities the aerial or the DTR. If you have rescanned the channels with no improvement the why not borrow another DTR and see if that works on your weak channels.
If it does then it's the DTR, if not then its your aerial.

It is not as bad as I first thought, of all the channels available to me I have no problems with any except ; -
    ITV3, ITV4, More4 and Channel 4+1

And ALL of the channels are showing 20% signal level.

The above mentioned channels are transmitted on MUX2 which uses the less robust 64QAM transmission system i.e. they squeeze more channels into the same space compared to the BBC MUX1 which uses 16QAM. MUX2 transmits on the highest frequency CH65, so greater path loss.

If you can put up with your insufficient signal strength until Sunday 1st November 2009, your transmitter Winter Hill will then increase power from 10000 W to 100000 W, e.g. 10 times stronger.

Don't forget this is a money saving site ;) I don't want to spend money on a new aerial if it is not needed, whatever strength it was until last night I cannot remember, but I have had the digi box and working channels until 10 pm last night, so as is suggested either the box or aerial faulty, new box = about £20, new aerial =?? £80+ maybe.

Indeed it is, all the more reason to check for corroded antenna connections; it worked for me.
Espresso knows his stuff and I think he's hinting that your signal may be too low....;)

a similar thing happened to me, turned out to be a broken "fly lead" bit of aerial cable coming from wall socket.
Agree with some on the aerial issue though doubt it is actually "faulty" but checking all connections would be a good start as wouldn't cost you anything, but agree with you that it is not absolute as certain faulty components inside the box could lead to this as well
The timing is not too relevant as it may have just occurred after a bird landed on your aerial causing the break in connection

Looks like I may have to venture onto the roof  and check the connection.

Re the "broken "fly lead" bit of aerial cable coming from wall socket.", my aerial cable comes straight from the aerial to the digi box without breaks, i.e. it does not go to a wall socket first, and I have checked that conn.

An update, checked the aerial on the roof, conns ok, made no difference, signal strength still showing 20%, purchased another STB, plugged in,auto scanned, everything now perfect with all channels showing 100% signal strength.

So the STB is faulty,(not aerial), can't see Amazon doing anything as the STB is 15 months old, but will call them tomorrow and see, surely they should last longer than that!

    Thanks for all input.

Stumbled across this while searching for something else. I had exactly the same problem. Messed around with the aeriel more than once. Eventually, the aeriel rigger lent me his set top box...perfect. Didn't have to change my box though, just upgraded the firmware and it worked fine from then on.

Anyway, my current problem. I've got a new freeview DTR, digihome DG250. The picture freezes for a split second every few minutes. I know I've got a good sig strength. Any ideas. If I pack the box up and get a replacement am I likely to be stuck with the same problem?
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc

I have access to three Digihomes and they all do that or variations of that. My next one will certainly be a Humax
