I'm confused - can anyone help?

I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place - apologies if not - please let me know!

I'm trying to cut my monthly outgoings. I have a BT landline, and BT broadband. I also have a mobile phone (Orange). I use the broadband, use the mobile (I get 500 free minutes of calls a month - more than I need) but don't use the landline for calls as it costs me which is daft when I don't pay on my mobile.

Is there any way of getting internet without a landline? I have an old fashioned (it seems) PC - so none of this wireless stuff going on. It just seems daft to me that I have to pay for the privelege of a service I don't use, just so I can use my broadband.

Or am I asking the impossible?!

I keep reading about people who live on a holiday park 11 months of the year with no landlines,using a dongle from "3" and paying £5 per month for broadband.

Also I've read somewhere that this can be done via orange.

As an aside, my son has a BT landline and is on the lowest monthly rental (so he pays for every call theoretically), but he has an orange contract mobile (about £30 per month) and gets 500 free minutes plus TWO free numbers, so the 500 free minutes are more than adequate and the two free numbers have been allocated to us, parents & in-laws. So the BT line is for a wireless router to the laptop via a dongle.
