Wrong Road Tax Band?
Hey, We have a pre 2001 car with a 1529cc Engine - looking at road tax the last disc was £99 for 6 months "P", which i believe is the higher band, yet looking at the DVLA website the cutoff is apparently 1549CC - It looks like the car has been placed in the wrong band. Is there anything that can be done in the way of a refund or and i missing something?
Thanks
Thanks

Call the DVLA and have a moan at them. They often make mistakes on logbooks etc and this might be one that many people wouldnt have spotted.
With regards to getting any money back, that will probably be a bit more difficult, but theres no harm in asking. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0 -
Sounds correct, what sort of car is it?0

Check what the engine size (cc) is on your V5C/logbook.
The cut off point for pre-2001 vehicles is 1549cc, so if your's is lower than that then you should be paying the lower amount. Unless your vehicle was imported/registered after 2001, then it could be based on CO2 emissions, even though it was manufactured before 2001.
But it could be that the Post Office wrote the wrong amount on the tax disc rather than you've paid too much (happens quite a bit!). Do you have the receipt/cheque stub/debit card statement to check how much you did pay last time? Or the other old tax discs to check against?
If you have paid too much then DVLA will ask you to return photocopy of disc plus covering letter to explain to have it looked into for possible refund.

Cheers for the advice:
The capacity is incorrectly stated in the V5C - i called up DVLA and they said if it's wrong circle it, put the correct capacity along with some evidence and a letter and they'll investigate it - Done all that and just sent it off so we'll see what happens, but it sounds like i'll be getting a nice tasty refund (Think it's too much to ask for all the money since it was registered instead of when we bought it? :rotfl::rotfl:)

DVLA will not refund your previous over-payment of VED! lol NICE TRY!
What they will do now is contact the manufacturer.
Logbooks are created using secure forms printed off each time a vehicle rolls off the production line - ie the data comes directly from the manufacturer.
Once the manufacturer checks the data and confirms who is correct, the DVLA will notify you.
For reference...PLG (Private Light Goods) old-style taxation classes cover vehicles registered up until 1st March 2001. After that, the VED graduations come into play.
Hence how my car costs £175 for the year cos it's new...yet my OH's LPG infused monster of a car costs less! Crackers or what!?;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0
