We loved Butlins @ Minehead last year but this year the Harley Davidson Club is taking over the whole camp at the time of our holiday (4th - 7th July) so I am looking for information about Skegness, how does the site compare and any information on the resort itself as we like to break out, one review said the beach wasn't nice. Also does anyone have information about the camp site in Butlins as the telesales guy didn't make the facilities sound very good. Can't go to Bognor - no camp site.
Thankyou in advance, FiFi

Haven't been to Minehead for about twenty years, so can't really compare, but Butlins Skeg is great. If you do a search you will find lots of useful posts on Butlins.
The beach at Skeg is just like any other English beach. The sea has a Blue Flag award so is clean (or as clean as any!), it gets busy but then so does every decent beach!
If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask ... xGone ... or have I?0 -
I love Skegness, it is very English. Tourist information is along the road that runs parallel with the beach, opposite a logflume ride and the Embassy theatre, next to the gates to Central Park. Captain Kids and The Sun Castle are the two best indoor play areas for kids, should be able to get discount vouchers for them at the TI. Bottons Pleasure beach is small but reasonably priced at £12 for a wristband I think. Natureland Seal sanctuary is meant to be relly good although I have never been myself, again vouchers at the TI. Gibralter point nature reserve, free except parking very nice walks, pic-nicing and a nice visitors centre. Fairy Dell, the recently updated free paddling pool, may have to ask for directions when you are there as it is a little difficult to explain. Crazy golf, (several) a couple of really good play all day parks. Then up the other end of the beach is the best astroglide I have ever been on and a small arcade, fun park. Round the corner from there next to Coogees surf shop is Roys records one of the best second hand record stores in the whole of Lincolnshire. Parrot sanctuary is in a little village called Friskey about 5 or 6 miles out and Batemans brewery tour is at Wainfleet again just a couple of miles out. Oh and there is a nice farm at Ingoldmells but I can't currently remember the name of it. Car boots on Saturdays at Southview caravan park next to Butlins and at the Footbal ground and others on Sundays. Chapel is a quaint smaller seaside village. Ingoldmells is bigger and growing yearly, has two markets, one smaller one at the far end and the huge Fantasy Island market at the other. Local paper will probably have an offer on ride tokens or if not then TI again. Mablethorpe is an old fashioned seaside resort also my next favourite after Skeg. Finally Cleethorpes is a bit small seaside wise but there is Pleasure Island which if you got to their TI centre you will definately get three for two and sometimes bogof.Loving the dtd thread. x0

i think you have covered just about everything there !! the farm you are thinking of is hardys, church farm museam is also nice for a couple of hours and they sometimes hold special events in the summer months, also the heavy horse center which is a couple of miles out of skegness, also try the skegness stadium for banger racing if its on fingers crossed for the weather0

Thank you for all your replies, they have been very helpful. I was in a seaside resort in the north east of England the other week and it was so run down and neglected, it was so sad. I now feel more encouraged to give Skegness a try.
Thanks again, FiFi

We went to Skegness last year and we were very happy with it. The only down side to it is the food and drinks are overpriced so it's sometimes cheaper in the long run to go half board. I also went there about 5 years ago with a friend and her kids and the room was hideous. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned there was a black ring all round the bath, about 30 dead flies on the windowsill and no tea or coffee facilities as was promised in the brochure. I complained about it and they sent someone to clean it properly straight away.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Hi apologies if this is listed elsewhere, but this may be of help to anyone who is going to Skegness or nearby this year. http://theskegnessdirectory.co.uk/pages/order_sing_booklet.php?success=1 might help with a free booklet giving you lot of money of vouchers for Fantasy Island, Batemans Brewery, Captain Kids adventure world, Bowling, Laser Quest, Stock Car & Banger Racing, The Elms Golf Centre, Water Ski, Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex, Hardy's Animal Farm, Pleasure Island, the Parrot Zoo, and more. The vouchers definitately seem really good, especially the Pleasure Island ones where you get 2 for 1 entry - the booklet gives you two of those - perfect for a family of 4 , and will save you £15.50 on each voucher used!!!. Pleasure Island is owned by the same people that own Flamingoland. The Fantasy Island ones look quite good too - there are two vouchers for this Buy £12 Ride tokens get £12 free or buy £18 ride tokens, get £18 free. If you follow the above link you can download a pdf file and print off your own vouchers, or simply request a free booklet to be sent to your home address, and be organised before you go!!! There are some people selling this info on ebay, don't be like me who bought a booklet for £3 like this - use the link above, and you will get it totally free.
Really hope this helps someone:T0 -
Perfect. Just looked up Skegness in the search engine and found this! The booklets will be fab as 9 of us (6 adults, three kids) have a house rented in skegness in two weeks time for a week. Have ordered a booklet. How long might it take to come? And can you tell me, am I best off ordering 2 or 3 as there will be 9 people?
Is it too much of a pain to say which vouchers are in the booklet? Is it all the printable ones?
THANK YOU :T :j :TMy baby girl :kisses3: September 09 :heartsmil0 -

 how can any stretch of water that runs that close to the river humber be classed as clean, the river humber is brown, and a disgusting brown at that:eek: , but yes skegness is a lovely place, brings back memories of when i was a kid :rotfl:Take every day as it comes!!0
