British Gas Click Energy 4

I switched to British Gas Click Energy 4 last November. On 8th Jan 08, BG announced new energy prices effective 18th Jan so I supplied them with a meter reading on 17th Jan. After checking my online bill on 21 Jan I noticed that although my meter reading had been incorporated into the bill I was being charged a higher Click Energy 4 tariff than that notified in writing when I switched. I spent some time on the phone but eventually found a BG employee who would correct the error. I then asked him what my new tariff was. The tariff he quoted me was exactly the same as that notified in writing in November ie no price increase. I went online on 30 Jan, some 12 days after the new tarfiffs were effective, and found the Click energy 4 tariffs. My tariff was exactly the same as was previously notified, ie no increase. On 31st January I called BG again and once again they confirmed my tariff had not increased. I have recently looked at my online bill, the charges to 18th January have been corected but they have now introduced a new higher tariff for Click Energy 4, without notifying me and obviously their operators called on 21 and 30 january advised me incorrectly. I believe I have 10 days to switch suppliers and get charged at the old rate but what recourse do I have to hold them to the old tariff? I printed the tariff downloaded on 30th Jan and I know who I spoke to on 30th January. Can I take British Gas to the Small Claims court?

i thought bg click energy 4 prices went up feb18th so their operators were not lying to you
  • The news articles about the price increase are all dated 18th January and mention "effective immediately" which is why I supplied a meter reading. My current bill has 2 diifferent tariffs, one from Dec 2007 to 7 Feb 2008, at the correct old tariff, then a higher tariff from 8 Feb 2008 to 10 Mar 2008.
  • To close this post I have now settled with British Gas after persisting to chase them for 5 months. I only found one Supervisor capable of acknowledging and accepting their crass admin errors but he was able to frig the computer and put me onto a tariff capped to Apr 2010 and costing less than the BG Click Energy 4 tariff last October when I switched, a saving for me of abt £250 per annum.
