I have mcafee which I bought off ebay last October. I keep getting a pop up telling me it has expired but when I go into the security centre I can still scan and it still keeps telling me I am fully protected. Any ideas? I did have mcafee before this and did not totally uninstall it, just renewed it with the new one and wondering if that has anything to do with it?

Its still fully functional apart from you won't get any updates to protect you from newer viruses. which is basically what the subcriptions for.
You basically pay for virus definition updates over the year.
Can I recommend ESET Smart Security if you don't mind paying. Its much better in my opinon and you'll notice a difference in pc performance. 30day free trial.

Another vote for AVG here, it's free and better than McAfee
(Although v7.5 not the new v8 which is a pain!).
Make sure you remove McAfee fully, Norton and McAfee have a habit of leaving stuff all over your system, a quick Google or search on the forums will bring up the full removal links.0 -
That's the best thing to happen to Mcafee, I had it once, and even after I uninstalled it there were mcafee things in my start up, I hate programmes like that, I now use the free Avast, it does a very good job for nowt, now that's a price I like. There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0
