Can any of you good people help me ?
we have had some decking put down as a patio area and want it painted or whatever you do with it and are looking for reccomendations as to which stuff to use.
we want the finish to be of a medium brown maybe teak colour. Is it best to be water proof ? and we want something that will NOT peel off after the winter.
which brand is the best and whats the best way of applying it.
Any help gratefully received.

Hi, you can stain it any colour you like as long as you use the correct type of stain for decking, see here-

Decking is normally green but with enough coats should go virtually any colour!
You can then seal it with decking seal to preserve it even more.
Good luck0 -

Have a look in B&Q we used Ronseal, not cheap but looks good.
Who knows may even be reduced, usually is after we buy some !!! :rotfl:
Good look & you only get what you pay for !!!!!!There are More Questions Than Answers!!!!!!

And if you want to make a REALLY good job....use what they put on 'Boat Decks'.
Not cheap method but using 'Sickens' stain will last years.
Costs about £20.00 a small tin though.
You can only get it from 'trade paint shops' like a 'dulux decorator centre' but i have seen it in 'Jewson'.
Make sure you get the right one...you need the 'base coat'.0 -
I used Ronseal Ultra Tough Decking Stain
http://www.ronseal.com/prodshow.asp?sec=group&prodID=70&gID=17
Comes with a long-handled applicator which works really well.
Quite expensive at £25, but very quick and seems to be hard wearing.
I guess it "Does what it says on the tin!"British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

Decking oil with a stain is what we use. I try and do it every year when the deck is really really dry. I think if exposed to the elements it does help to maintain it. Ours is facing due south so does get a real roasting.0
