London Hotels... any deals/recommendations?

I'm looking to stay in London for 2 nights (12th and 13th April). Double room for my girlfriend and I. Preferably a 4* or better, maybe an excellent quality 3*. Main criteria I guess is good location and more importantly a fantastic deal. All prices cheap to fairly expensive considered, so long as the deal is a great offer.
Can anyone recommend me any good places/areas/hotels to stay? I know very little about London. Was eveb considering priceline, but I'm a little weary of it.
Any tips etc much appreciated.

How much cheap and how much is fairly expensive to you?"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -

What do you call a 'good location'?
What is your budget?
Define a 'great deal'.
Once all these factors are established, I'm sure someone will be able to assist. This space has been intentionally left blank0 -
Oops I meant 12th & 13th June.
Price ideally no more than £50/night each (£100 per night for double room). Would be great to get a good hotel for less - say maybe £30ea/nt, but then again I wouldn't mind paying maybe bit more - say £70ea/nt, for say a top end 5* in fantastic location.
As I do not know London, I do not know where is good or where is bad? We'd like to visit a few museums, art galleries etc. I have heard kensington area might be ok, but I really don't have much of a clue. We are both aged just below 30 and are white from Ireland if that makes a difference i.e. don't want to stay in a rough area where we may be "out of place" so to speak.0 -
Well there aren't any places in central London like that.
Top end 5* hotel in London though at £70 you must be having an absolute laugh.
A travel lodge alone in Covent Garden for example is £94 per night for a double room.
I shall get back to you though, see what one can find."I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"

Yes, I know they're normally expensive but I thought that by going through sites such as priceline, it was possible to get approx 50-75%, maybe more off the standard rates. Hence why I say I want a good deal only. I certainly won't pay rack rates for a hotel... that is just silly imo. I have already saw loads of 4*'s for around the 100/nt for a double room, but like I say I don't know good locations to choose from etc.0

I think the big problem is that you want to stay on a Thursday and Friday night. Thursdays are much more expensive due to business travellers in the majority of hotels. If you can do the Fri and Sat you can get for example the Hilton Tower Bridge for £228 in total including Dinner on the first night and breakfast both days (book on Hilton website). The hotel is ranked in the top 25 on tripadvisor out of 1000 or so hotels and is fairly new and 4 star.0

I usually go through www.hotels.com. I always seem to find a good offer.
I've stayed at the Hilton Metropole lots of times and have always found a good deal to include breakfast. www.hilton.com. At the moment it's coming up at about £127 but that's without breakfast.
Hope this helps a little. xxx0 -
thanks for the suggestions, having a look now.0

Midweek central london hotels are not cheap.
Try www.londontown.com you get good deals there.
www.hrs.com but its search is a 3 mile radius which is too big.
You want to be in Mayfair, Covent Garden, SOHO or Fitzrovia so you can walk everywhere. www.walkit.com see how far your hotel is from your arrival terminal ie railway station or bus terminal.
Your hotel should be a maximum of half a mile radius from Trafalgar Sq for really central locality, Worth paying the extra as you save on travel time and the travel cost.
Best for value try Best Western Mostyn Hotel on Bryanston Street. This is right at the top of Park Lane.
For value look at The Royal Adelphi Hotel, Villiers Street. This is really central but it is basic (Very Basic). 100yds from Trafalgar Sq.
If you wait I predict hotel room prices for summer might drop if the USA goes into recession and people stop travelling. Lets wait and see.0 -
