Just got back from a fantastic back, neck and shoulder massage and I would say its worth every penny. I pay £11 but it is normally £13 for half an hour (get NHS discount). If I won the lottery I would have a massage every day. You are paying for that person's one to one attention with the added bonus of the feel good factor. I'm sure I would less healthier if I didn't have the massage.
I try not to devalue someone elses skill because we are all worth it.
Same goes for discount for cash.My hubbie is a carpenter and chooses not to receive cash if he can help it because he values his skills.
Always wondered why cleaners are so low paid because the whole world would stop without them.

You may be able to get a discount if you make a booking for a course; six confirmed appointments.

I think its cheeky to ask for discount on an hour booking and if you get two hours for the price on one its going to hurt.

I would love to go for massages every month too if I could afford it... I've had a few treatments lately coming up to my wedding and I've found every single one of them worth what they charge and it's costing me more than £40!!! Personally I love giving massages but I can't do it for long (to hubby to be's disappointment) as I get inflamed tendons in my wrists... Massaging is hard work and I think that if you can't afford the £40 then find a cheaper therapist or block book for discounts if she offers this...
My therapists are very good and they are throwing in a little extra when I go 2 days before my wedding :) Then again I'm spending about £120 that day and it's midweek so I dare say they aren't loosing much on it but are giving a bit extra to a good customer :)

Before I put my foot in it I thought I would see how imaginative this board is on negotiating price reductions.

A woman is advertising a therapeutic massage at £40ph. This is more than I want to pay and I am assuming that she does not have a full book. I am not very good at this type of letter because I can put someone's back up and so although I propose to write to her saying the following I would appreciate any comments on the best way to achieve my objective, but without lying about ability to pay or giving untrue hard luck stories

I noticed your advert in .... and would very much want to attend your practice on a regular basis. However I would like to pay less than your standard rate in exchange for me coming to your practice at very short notice, filling in for a cancelled appointment or an empty booking. I live within short cycling distance of your practice and can call round at an hour's notice. Would you be prepared to give me 2 hours for £40, if it was on this special basis?

    R

I don't suppose you collect nectar points do you, because you could get half price massage, I did it this way and met a wonderful woman who charges £30.00 for a full body, and then gave me £10 voucher off my next appointment.

I thought £30 was quite good considering i was in so much pain when i saw my lady and was pain free for a good month and a half after :)
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

I go for treatments at my local beauty college. The students are well supervised, and well practised before they treat the public. I have had many massages, and only the odd one that wasn't quite so good. The charge for aromatherapy massage is £7, swedish £6, Indian head £4, and many other treatments very cheap too. They often run top-to-toe days with lunch included for about £18, as there is a catering college on site too.
They are full length treatments, which you need to give feedback on. Usually the colleges have a nice treatment room, with soothing music, just like at the more expensive places, but there will be perhaps 10 clients in curtained off areas.
