Help needed, dire situation :(

Hi everyone,

I hope someone might be able to advise me please.

My husband runs his own business and in the last few months, the business has not been working out and husband is deciding on whether or not to allow the business to fold.

In this time, he has also had a second job on an ad hoc basis which is on a PAYE basis, however this company has now let him go due to financial difficulties.

I am a part time student and I work part time, I earn about £670 a month and we also receive working tax credits. We have no children.

What I am wondering is, what, if anything, would husband be entitled to if he allowed the business to close, he would be looking to go back into the employment sector pretty sharpish but I am just worried in case he doesn't get back out there as quickly as he would hope.

Currently, I am earning money and we have just about depleted our savings to pay the mortgage since January, we'll have no money after this month and we have no family which we can borrow from.

I'm planning to write to the mortgage company and other priority creditors tomorrow to explain the situation we are in.

Also, how long does is take to get things sorted out, benefits wise

I am assuming that he was paying NI on his ad hoc job. Probably best to pop alomg to the jobcentre and see if he can claim contribution based JSA or if he is entitled to any income support if not JSA. That could depend on your income.

Good luck with the mortgage company etc. I hope something turns up for him soon.

Unfortunately mortgage interest is not paid for a few months except in exceptional circumstances, I am sure this is your primary concern.
