"The Limitation Act 1980 sets out the rules on how long a creditor has to take action against you to recover a debt i.e. take you to court. The time limits are different depending on the type of debt that you have. This fact sheet outlines when you can use the Limitation Act and includes a standard letter you can adapt to send if your debt fits into the rules."

If it's over 6 years old, it should be "Statue Barred" use the letter from the link marcgr has included in their post, (In other words, the DCA can go forth and not multiply)beverley1296 wrote: »I am being chased for a debt over 8 years ago, do I have to pay it? any advice please.
If the DCA writes back and states "It's not statue Barred" because a CCJ has been obtained on the debt, again write back to them, and inform them "You will not corresp0ond with them any further, WITHOUT THEM TAKING LEAVE OF THE COURT :beer:Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

*cough* depends on when the last time you acknowledged the debt either in writing or by paying anything to it... if THAT was more than 6 years ago it will be statute barred. Technically you will still owe it, but they can't do much legally to get the money from you (not saying they can't at all... some circumstances they can but very few of them do..)DFW Nerd #025DFW no more!
