Council tax benefit & earnings limit.

Hi,

Does anyone know what the earnings limit is, for being able to claim a council tax reduction? I already have the 25% discount for single adult occupancy but am on low income working away from home and wanted to see if I could have any further reductions?

Thanks

  • Its dependant on so many different things that its hard to put a figure on without knowing all your personal circumstances, best advice i could give would be to tele the local council and apply, then see what happens...
when in doubt always apply, they can only say no,they may even say yes !
  • Thanks for your reply. I appreciate their are lot's of factors about disabilities, JSA etc, but I was after an estimate on the amount of money one can earn. I have the claims form. But if I submit a claim and they say you earn a penny to much, it would seem pointless.

You could enter some figures into www.entitledto.co.uk and see if you are eligible, or there will be a benefits calculator on your local council's website that tends to be more accurate.

woodbine is right, you can't just pull a figure out of the air for something like this.
    Gone ... or have I?

Don't know if this will help, but I too wondered about whether it was worth claiming. I rang my local council tax office and they asked a few details and they were able to do an estimate calculation as to whether I would be eligible or not over the phone. On the basis of this I then sent in the forms and was assessed properly and got more benefit than was actually told in the estimate. Definitely worth doing if you are on low income you don't lose anything by asking and you might even gain!!
