HI all,
I recently bought a Latitude D830 and over the last week or so I have tried a few times to try and back up files to DVD but the drive doesn not read ANY disks I insert. I am using Windows XP.
If I insert a movie the software Cyberlink PowerDVD, which came with the package, says that there is a DVD Region Error, and that I must change the region to that of the dvd. It said the Region was "Free". And this can only be done a set number of times.
I have changed the region to 2, the DVD drive seems to read a couple of DVD movies I've tried, but will not read DVD-RWs of my kid's photographs and home video. Really quite annoying.
Has anyone experienced this type of problem of have a solution? I have emailed Dell, but still awaiting a reply, so thougt these forums would probably produce valuable info. Cheers

Hi
Now that your DVD drive is set to Region 2 you should be OK to view DVDs that are Region 2 or Region 0.
These are movies that are recorded in 'DVD format'. The ones that you buy or rent.
The other things that you have stored on your DVD discs are probably stored as 'data files' - not in DVD format.
Such as photos and home movies and some other movies that you may have downloaded.
That's the difference between them, but I don't know why you can't read the data files.Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
try reisntalling the firmware from here and see if that helps.
