Wooden Staircase Open Tread

Hi I am looking for ideas on how to spruce up my staircase. It is looking a little dry and dull.
Stair is four years old now. It was stained with Dulux satin wood stain, I do not want to give the stair another coat of this as it would darken it and I feel it is dark enough. Nor do I want to coat it with clear varnish. I was thinking along the lines of maybe a wax, just to give it a bit of a sheen.
Appreciate any help you can give.
Thank you.

Yes. Maybe Beeswax.
Anyone have any thoughts on this.0 -
Do you not think waxing a staircase might be a touch dangerous? .. ie: it would then be very slippery:eek:#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Yes perhaps it might, this is why I am asking on here, looking for advice on what I can do with the stair. I expect someone will be along soon with a good idea.
In the meantime thank you for drawing my attention to the danger of wax.0 -

Depends on the style of your house but how about a carpet running up the middle of the stairs with stair rods? Safer too, especially if you have kids.0
