My friend (not me, honestly
) thinks she might have accidently uninstalled the bit of program that makes the sound work.
She was looking for something in the "Add or Remove Programs" list and suddenly thought to uninstall Skype as she doen't use it ever. Since then the sound doesn't work and she's wondering if she went too far down the list of "skype" things and deleted a file called "sound" if that were next on the list. Maybe. Or it might be a different problem.
She's got Norton and has done an antivirus scan and that's clear. All harware connections have been checked. Not sure what she should do now. Any advice?

look in the system tray for a volume control icon. if it's not there, she may have deleted the sound driver software. A quick visit to the manufacturer's website (Tech Support section) should remedy it.
If the icon is there but still no sound, doubleclick the icon and ensure none of the controls are set to MuteLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0
