Anyone been cruising with Saga ? We are looking at a trip next year on Saga Ruby, would be very interested in any comments from previous customers. Can't find much on the usual review sites - perhaps people won't own up to it !

Two of my friends are just back from a cruise. They are very social types but eventually asked to be seated at a table for two at dinner as the people they were sitting with drove them mad talking about money and golf in that order. They said to book up the trips from the ship when you book your cruise as they fill up very quickly and they felt left out when folk arrived back after a trip to tell them all about it. Enjoy your trip - wish I could afford a cruise.:T0

I have cruised on Saga's smaller ship Spirit of Adventure. I liked it so much that I am doing another cruise on her this August.
One thing I can say is that Saga really look after you on their cruises. The food and service are really good.
You can find discussions about their cruises on Sagazone here:

Another site with good forums about cruises is:
www.cruisecritic.co.uk
You can also look at reviews for any cruise ship on this site.
Saga cruises may be more expensive initially than the larger glitzier American ships but they include so much more. They are certainly geared towards the British market and a highlight of each day is the magnificent afternoon tea they serve!
I have also found that the earlier you book with Saga the more you save.
If you decide to go I am sure you will have a wonderful experience.Born to shop;)0 -
I like Norwegian Cruise Line. You can eat when and where you want

My parents have been on the Saga Ruby (and other cruises) and say that it is very good. They are currently on it again at the moment in the Med. They only booked 2 weeks ago and got it nearly half price as there was space - but that is a bit of a gamble I suppose. What they like about Saga cruises is it includes insurance which at 80+ can be a bit difficult and expensive and it includes transport from home to the ship and back home again.
By the way don't go on Fred Olsen ships and don't be tempted to go without proper insurance - I speak from personal experience, it is very expensive when you get ill on a cruise and they throw you off (into hospital) at some foreign port and subsequently require an air ambulance home!!0 -

We know this - my wife was taken ill on the QM2 a couple of years back, spent 4 days in hospital on there, then 3 days in a very posh clinic in Ft Lauderdale.
We were insured with Saga, who were great.0 -
Hi
We have been on the Saga Rose a few times now - The Med and upto St Petersburg Russia.
Great time - nice reasonable numbers on board, one dining time which is better than most ships, and food is great. Ratio of waiters and crew to passengers seems pretty good, and I would recommend them over any of the mainstream cruises, simply because the lack of kids and younger parents makes for a quiet and relaxing cruise (No offence of course to our younger guests!).0 -

Agreed! And the numbers of 80-year-olds, as well as the presence of the completely ga-ga of all ages, made me and OH feel quite youthful0 -
As an alternative to Saga, who I agree look after you very well, but personally think are too expensive, we have been on 3 cruises with Holland America Line. I cannot recommend them highly enough, everything is top class and no children allowed. (they cater for the more mature traveller).
OK. the majority of passngers are American, but that means that they love having us British on board. If you look around on the web, you can get terrific discounts as well."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -

Just returned from a 2 week cruise on the Ruby - fabulous - cabins ok, good food, good entertainment programme. Yummy free ice cream. Hope you enjoy your cruise.
