Hacked phone number/Virgin Media

When we moved into our first home and had cable pone line installed (this was when line rental cost us £5.50 and calls half the price of BT) we then noticed sometimes when we picked the phone up the line was connected to premium rate overseas sex lines. I then later phoned my own landline and someone else answered, they said they had just moved in to their home and found a working phone socket so had been using it.
Cable came out and checked the connections and found that my phone line was connected not only to my home but to that of two others. They had been running up a very large phone bill on my account. Though have to admit they quickly sorted out and didn't have tot pay the bill, they cleared it virtually straight away. This was in Birmingham Cable days, when customer services / support was excellent, shame it's not the same today. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
The exact same thing is happening to me at the moment. We had a ridiculously large bill, then Virgin cut us off until we could pay them £150 in advance as we are "High Usage Customers" which simply isnt the case.
The day after we had our outgoing calls suspended, we got a phonecall from a woman asking why our number was on her 1471 from a few minutes ago! We told her we couldnt make outgoing calls and she became very hostile and wouldnt give us any information about herself or her telephone number.
Virgin are insisting nothing is wrong but there has to be! Whats worse is my mother is disabled and I hate her not having phone in case she falls or becomes sick when I am not there
Virgins customer service is an absolute disgrace.0 -

Virgins customer service is an absolute disgrace.
Tell them you want it investigated.
Might be worth trying support via their newsgroups:
https://www.virginmedia.com/newsgroups has details.
virginmedia.support.telephony is the group for the telephone.
Are you on the priority repair service? With your mother being disabled you can apply for this. (We are on the priority service). They will send a form out that you fill in and get a Dr or other medical person to sign. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Hello there i am hoping that somebody can help me.
We have recently received a Virgin Media bill which has a local number dialled on two occasions. the first one for 80 minutes and the second for 22 minutes.
Now i am not worried about the cost as it was only a couple of pounds, but me and OH have had a 'discussion' about who has made the calls. I was out on both occasions and oh works away. i don't know anyone locally and would not spend 80 minutes on the phone to anyone anyway. I am 99.9999 percent certain that we have not made the calls.
My question is: Is it possible that these are someone else (in my immediate area) calls or is that impossible. we are constantly getting crossed lines etc since moving to Virgin.
Thanks in advance.0 -
Yes, it only needs an engineer to connect a pair of wires incorrectly somewhere and, all of a sudden, your line is connected to someone else. That would normally mean your line gets a different number too. Are you sure your number hasn't changed? Check by calling from your mobile.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
