Someone suggested I have a electric survey done to see everything is in order ,or am I just payiing too much with scottish power.Any suggestions welcome thanks.

Post your usage in kWh because we don't know where you live or how much you pay per kWh.

Start reading your meter every day, if you read it about the same time each day and keep a diary of what appliances you use each day, you should be able to see how you are using your electric.

Depending upon what appliances you use overnight, it might be interesting to see how many units you are using overnight. Most of us think we use hardly any electric overnight, but with TVs and DVDs etc left on standby the units do get used.

according to my bill 173 days electric 2752kw average16 a day used 12kw in summer months

    Gas 173days 1134kw 65 per day average

bill electric online energy saver 4 £195.11

    bill gas £287.44

Does it only seem big because its for 173 days, its just that customer services said I am a high user ,dont have anything fancy to switch on ie . hot tubs ,game consules , electric fires tumble dryers.Gas only on 21 would be lower but mother is 85 have to keep her warm.Any thoughts
  • I would (personally) say that £200 for 6 months electric and £300 for 6 months gas is pretty good. That's about £1000 per year in energy which is about average I think for a 4 bed property. Plus, you say the heating is on more than it would otherwise be for your elderly mother.

It sounds like earlier they may have been saying it was for a quarter - but 173 days is just shy of half a year.

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
