A while ago I mentioned about BG sending me red reminders before I got the bill, then when I complained I got no more red reminders - just a threatening letter from a firm of debt collectors !

I have now moved to Eon: More of the same ?

They sent me a letter saying my first DD payment, agreed at £65 per month, would be taken on the 25 April. Then I got another letter saying it would be 25th March.
The first payment was taken on the 25 April - for £24 !!!

    Hi Moonrakerz,

I think I can explain that one.

I presume you switched to E.ON through one of the price comparison sites?

That site would have given E.ON a seperate DD figure for both gas and elec.

If we say that gas is a product and electricity is a product.

The DD is set up when an individual 'product' reaches a certain point in the registration process. If the electricity reached that point first, your dd would have been £24, when the gas hit that registration point your dd would have gone up to £65 combined and a letter would have been produced. However for some reason the system has been sending a letter out when it was physically too late to take the amended amount from the bank.

The letter with the error on it saying it should have been taken in march i presume was the 'It's all done' letter? When the initial sale was put through the system would have estimated the first dd was going to be taken in march. And for some reason this final letter picks up information from when the quote was put through.

This issue is being investigated and they're trying to get it resolved asap.

Confusing i know, and not a very good start but they are trying to sort it! If you hadn't realised already, yes, i DO work for them! :D

I did the change over direct with E.on via Quidco. I only used the comparison sites to get into each supplier's "price lists". The £65 per month DD was arranged and agreed over the telephone with E.on.

I always keep track of my power/water consumption so I have a good idea of what my bills are going to be. Following your explanation I can see why people end up with huge increases in their DDs when they have been with a company for, say, 12 months.
If you take my original DD figure to be spot on, my fuel bill would be £780 pa. If they only take £24 per month, after one year I owe them £492. Add that to the next year's bill (add 15% for energy price increases - not unreasonable !) and my expenditure for that year becomes a new DD of £116 per month. Only 483% of my original DD !
