Have a gander at this site http://www.shiply.com/

It kinda eBay for couriers - say where the collection and delivery addresses are and they will quote for you. It works on the principle of utilising empty van space on return journeys - excellent system.

Well funny you say that - I found that site through ebay yesterday. So I signed up and put out an advert. I have a quote of £111 to shift my sofas from London to North East. Sounds quite good in comparison to that of another quote (not through the site) was £250!

Maybe TyperActive & Joeydoll could club together & hire a van between them, assuming of course that they live within 25 miles of each other.

Ooops, just looked at the date of the op. May be a bit late for this time.
Could be the start of a Van-share scheme though.

Don't forget though to ask your seller if this is acceptable. Collection in person is not the same as sending a courier and pesonally I would refuse such a request.

I got rid of my last sofas on freecycle, I had arranged for a man with a van to collect at 6pm, he turned up on time with his son they took the sofas apart (they were huge recliners and needed to be dismantled to get them through a door) loaded a van and were off in 45 minutes.

If someone had said they would send a courer no doubt the courier would not have wanted to dismantle the thing and i may have been expected to wrap it somehow or at least attach labels, I also doubt whether they could give an exact time for collection. Also, a seller is likely to want cash on delivery so how will that work?

Abbey sell their courier services on ebay. I've used them many times and had excellent service. Sellers have been happy for Abbey to collect too, but you have to pay the seller first and then pay for Abbey to collect. Abbey will liaise with the seller re collection at a mutually convenient time and then with the buyer for a delivery slot.

No connection - just a satisfied customer.

Yeah - I called the seller (a business) to ask if courier would be ok as I could not make it - they were fine with this. Though I see where you're coming from. Also on the shiply website you can point the courier to the advert, which is great as they can see the pictures of the items - very helpful. I also provided a rough estimate of sizes and weight. Similar to ebay the guy who's bidded for me has a very good feedback score etc.

I will pay by paypal for the item before Monday. I have also contacted the courier to keep him up to date.

    Cheers

  • Is the seller happy with you paying by paypal? I know most sellers would want cash for collections to protect themselves against scams.

I hope so - it's advertised that they accept paypal. I have been a member for over 5 years now, with a 100% record. The seller also has a 100% record too. So we should both be fine and dandy.

    Cheers
