Card Advice Please

Hi,

I have currently got a Halifax and a M&S CC. I am hoping to BT everything of these two cards onto a Virgin CC.

I know from Martin's guides that you should never spend on a BT CC. What would therefore be the best thing to do from here regarding a CC to spend on? By spend on I mean spend and pay it off in full the same month.

Does it make sense to get another CC for this purpose and cancel the Halifax and M&S ones or should I just keep one of my current CC's and if so, which one and why?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Get the balances transferred to Virgin first.

Keep the card that offers the best benefits...
    • Lowest APR (for when you can't settle the same month)
    • M&S offers 0.5% cashback (in the form or vouchers) doesn't it?
    • If your current account is with Halifax, then their card may be better (for admin purposes).
Once your credit report has settled down (Virgin search long gone and the other card closed and 'settled'), get yourself a good cashback card.

How long does it take for the Virgin search to disappear?

It'll be on your file for 12 months, but the 'effect' will have worn off long before then.

It may even be possible to apply for something else just as soon as the other card is 'settled' with the CRA's (in two months or so) depending on your circumstances.
