Avoid Powergen price increase

Powergen have just put up their prices by 9% (ish) for gas and electricity. If you're an existing Energy Online customer, you won't get an increase (yet). If you're not I recommend requesting they put you onto Age Concern tariff, as that is much cheaper anyway and there is no increase until March 05. They are not allowed to offer this tariff but it is open to people of all ages. If you are 'over 60' (nod, nod, wink, wink) you'll also get a couple of low energy lightbulbs through the post and 2 hours free gas for every day that the temperature drops below zero (usually about £15 per winter). Avoid new capped price product like the plague.

UK energy giant Powergen has said it is to increase its gas and electricity prices once again.
Gas prices for consumers are to rise by 9.6% - the third rise this year - while electricity prices will be increased by 8.9%, the German-owned firm said.

The increase means that gas prices for the company's six million customers will have jumped by 17.6% during the course of 2004 alone.

Indeed, no price increase for the Powergen Online Tariff.

Here is the e-mail I received:

Good afternoon Mr Wilkinson and thank you for your email.

I'm sorry to hear you have been concerned by recent press coverage relating to our price review.

I am pleased to confirm that as you are on our EnergyOnline Tariff then your prices will not be changing at all.

I hope this is to your satisfaction.

    Kind regards.

So I will wait a while before jumping ship. Ahoy Matey's :o

  • I received the same email. Am in the process of switching across so was pretty pleased that prices weren't going up....

You suggest they might in the future though?
    Waddle you do eh?

Well, you can never know about price increases in future, the Online tariff certainly carries no guarantee but the email I got said they'd let me know if prices were going to go up.

So I will stay clear of switching sites until that time. Glad I didn't immediately spring into action when I got Martin's email because POwergen reassurance email came next day! (do they KNOW I'm a Moneysaver??? ;D)
I love it when a plan comes together :rotfl:
