What iPOd would you recommend?

Hello everyone I am looking for ideas about iPods; I don't know much about them but my son would love one for his 17th birthday in a couple of weeks. I can spend about £120 - do you think the Apple iPod Classic 80GB is worth getting if I spend that bit extra?Many thanks booklover

You don't have to buy your music from iTunes to put it on an iPod. You can get music from anywhere (rip from CD etc), import it into iTunes from a hard disk folder and then transfer it to the iPod.

The "not getting an iPod because I don't want to be tied in to iTunes" argument doesn't stack up really.
