cost of a bath/shower/central heating

has anybody worked out the cost of having an average shower, bath or per hour for having the heating on ???

i fancy doing this and plan to take meter readings before and after, will have to be for both water and gas i guess.

maybe if i know a bath costs £1 (total guess) then i might think twice before having one? or before switching the heating on for an hour

Showers are cheaper than baths and navy style showers are even cheaper.
Microwave ovens and Tefal type steamers and slow cookers and pressure cookers are way way cheaper than standard hob and oven.

Don't think anyone has, as it'd be far too complicated.
Allt he different types of shower, sizes of bath, ways of heating water, insulation, size of house etc.

That's not to say you couldn't do it for your house, but remember what else may be using gas/electricity when you make the measurements.
  • A pumped (power) shower can actually use MORE water than a bath (as can any shower when I get in!)

A good test would be (if your shower is over the bath) put the plug in and have your shower as normal - see how high the water comes.

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
  • If you like hot baths, putting loft insulation under it helps keep some of the heat.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

Thats a good one Andy. Have some spare polystyrene, might give that a go. Will insulate a cold spot whatever.
  • I only did it because I like to poach myself and got sick of turning on the hot tap every 5 minutes.
