Split personality cat!

Hi all,

We recently lost our Bengal boy Rocco to liver cancer, he was only two and half and it has devastated us. Our other Bengal cat (1 year old snow marble) worshipped the ground he walked on. She had FCKS, a thoracic deformity, and is still very flat chested - she was the runt of the litter. It's not causing her problems however, she can still pelt about like a loony with no ill effect.

She is usually a very loving and cuddly cat but since Rocco passed away she has spells where she becomes very agitated and wanders around meowing at the top of her lungs. During these spells she will not let us near her and runs away with flat ears and 'alien eyes'. She also has a problem with us picking her up although we are very careful not to cause her chest any discomfort, she will often lash out at us usually with her back claws, and squirm out of our grasp or leap away.

Otherwise she is a lovely cat who is very vocal, often conversing with us, fetching toys up the stairs, and loving to cuddle up with us on the bed or sofa (and sometimes under the covers!) But it seems she is getting more and more mistrustful of us every day.:confused:

We do want to get her another companion but we are now afraid that she will see this as a threat and become even worse. Has anyone had any experience of this type of behaviour with cats and how can we make it better for her?

hi - maybe try feliway to begin with and see if that calms her down? feliway is a diffuser which is supposed to help calm down cats when they are stressed ..

maybe she is just going through the grieving process, and will hopefully come through it with a bit of help..
We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic. ;)
