You're better off drilling small hole around it, then knocking it out with a hammer and chisel other wise you need a core drill bit and core drill as if your sds aint big enough it will ruin it. Yes you can hire them but it will cost you

I hired a core drill and used my dad's 850W SDS drill for a hole for a 40mm waste pipe. It was engineering brick, and took about an hour to do. But the result is a nice neat straight hole that is the perfect size for the pipe. As the wall was 11 inches thick (including cavity), I doubt I'd be able to get anything near as straight by drilling and knocking through.
  • Any tool hire company should hire them to you. (Hewden hire etc.) Have a look in the yellow pages. You may also need a long drill bit which acts as the pilot. It depends on which type you go for. If you do hire one, tell them that you work for one of the major contractors and they probably will give you a huge discount. e.g. Balfour Beatty, Laing O'Rourke, Edmund Nuttall
