Thank you all so much for your comments, I'll certainly continue to do my research. A friend has offered to bake a choc cake for me, we are going to chat about it this week, very money saving! So I might not need to buy one afterall.

Really appreciate everyones help and advice. L x
Thanks for the advice Martin! :money:

Been into my local M&S today (OH loves the potato gratin!) they have shelves full of the white celebration cakes, from the extra large to the tiny one. Plus dowels, pillars and polystyrene blocks... Wouldn't need to order them in from there!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Did they have the sponge ones? Think I'm still going to order as would be just my luck that the big one would be out of stock on the day I wanted one :o

Yes they had both but I would still order too if I were you... You don't want to be ringing round every M&S in the country a week before the wedding do you...

My brother in law had an m&s wedding cake and decorated it with fresh flowers,it looked fab.

I paid £1,500 for my wedding cake and i have to say i could not tell you what it tasted like, i have to say it was amazing just as i wanted it,it was not worth the money when i look back i dont think any wedding cake is
But i dont like fruit and i never opt to try any wedding cake unless its sponge.
M&S WEDDING CAKES SHOULD COST YOU BOUT £100.00 FROM what i can remember and it will look just as good as any designer cake with your own personal touches added (flowers) good luck:T

nt leave this on a negative as my nephew had them at his wedding nd as others have said decorated them with frosted fruits and flowers and they looked and tasted amazing. Marks and Spencers should have been contacted if the cake in question was not up to scratch======
Try and do a good deed every day.

My BIL and SIL had M&S cakes and apparently they were lovely.
Surely even M&S are entitled to have a bad batch and you don't know how far in advance the bad one was ordered.
I personally am not prepared to spend another £200-£300 on the basis of one bad opinion. After all my cake is mostly for show anyway.

I had an M&S chocolate rose cake in November for my wedding and had lots of positive comments. I thought it tasted lovely myself and there was plenty to go around (only cut the bottom 2 tiers and had 100+ guests).

I've had M&S birthday cakes and think they're delicious, I'm definately having an M&S wedding cake :) I don't care for fruit cake and nor does h2b but will get a fruit tier and two sponge then an extra cutting bar I imagine just to be sure there's enough.
