Remote desktop connection keeps disconnecting-pl help

Hi all

I've got a remote connection to my PC in work, which works in the following way;
1. open ISP (AOL)
2. click external link
3. click internaL LINK
4. click remote desktop link
5. username & password

This takes me into my PC no probs, which works fine.

However, in the last few days every 3-5 minutes the screen goes grayscale and a picture of a PC indicating a failed connection appears in the top rh corner of the screen.

Can anyone suggest anything I can do to resolve this??

Thanks
The only way I can resolve it is if I close it all and start again.

  • Sounds like a sign of an unstable connection to me. It could be at either end. Does either PC use wireless to access the internet? If so, that could be the problem.

    Thanks for your reply but no, I don't believe a wireless connection is involved.
  • I'd try connecting at different times, see if the problem occurs during peak times (evenings after 6pm) or whether its all the time. If the problem goes away when you connect off peak then it's a sign that your broaband may be causing the disconnects. Do you use a router with ethernet or a usb modem?

    In the mean time, with RDC you can turn off all effects and unneeded things like the desktop background, this will help.

    If it is an AOL ADSL installation they use their own software which works with the modem, my girlfriends mother has this setup and it is not very stable, if you don’t open the internet connection with AOL first, it stops all in/out bound traffic to the internet, it may be a slow connection, I use and maintain a Terminal server at work and we have had similar reports of connection problems, we have a leased line on to the internet and CISCO kit, the problems come from the clients internet connection.
    Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
