HSBC certainly offer switch (or maestro as it now is). But i think halifax, the top student account this year, only offer visa electron which isnt accepted everywhere so be careful with thatCome to my garden in South Bucks and i'll find you a wasp...0

i have just got a visa from nationwide (flex account) and abbey too. Instead of using the flex account(spending money) i use esavings (savings) which gives 4.75% interest.whenever i want to use money on my flex account i just transfer a bit into the flex account.0

I've got the Halifax Student acc, and they do offer the 'full' visa debit / cheque guarantee card on this acoount, not just the electronThought of the day - dont hold your farts in - they travel up your spine, into your brain and thats were shi**y ideas come from!0

Bank of Scotland
They do a visa electron with their cardcash account. This account is not credit checked, so just about anyone can get one.
You can also get a cheque book with this account.

AFAIK all cards are issued subject to status. However, in my experience if they offer you a Solo or Electron and you keep your account in good standing then they will let you "upgrade" to a Switch/Maestro or Visa/Delta a few months later.
You could always get a student credit card from any bank that would be accepted world wide! Just make sure you set up a Direct Debit to pay the balance of in full each month.

The natwest service card you get with the Student Account is a Maestro debit card0

most cards are subject to status (if you cant have a visa debit theyll give you an electron if you dont get a maestro youll get solo) though you are better off with a solo than electron iv had both and solo are accepted at far more places that ive tried than electronI know the rules of punctuation and grammer I just choose to ignore them (or forget them half the time)... I am exactly the oppposite, I used to have a solo, now use an electron and it is more widely accepted here in Scotland than the solo is.
Often a lot of the online retailers accept it as a credit card, where as the solo would definitely be refused. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I'd defiantly go for a full VISA card if you could, as these offer the same protection as credit cards in regards to online purchases.Smile... it's free0

I'm a fellow Scotsman - and my experience is the opposite.
In fact, I wanted a Solo card so much my account is 30 miles away from where I stay. Visa Electron is accepted at few shops, and many, many online retailers reject it. Take, for example, Tesco.com, Ebuyer.com, Aria.co.uk don't accept it. Solo is seen to be more like Switch in the amount of stores which accept it."You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it."0
