Money took 12 days to clear my account!!!

please help! i recently went shopping to my local asda and filled up with petrol on the way home. i thought that the money must of cleared from my account when i looked 5 days later, however i have just been doing some online banking and my account has been over drawn!!! the groceries came out 3 days after my visit to asda but the petrol took 12 days to clear resulting me going over drawn.. i admit i should of monitored my account a little better and not just assumed it cleared but is there anything i can do???
