Question about housing benifet

Hi
I have a question for anyone who is in the know about housing benifet.

I was living in a private rental with my partner, we was at the time before we both split up on job seekers allowance, we was getting full payment towards the rent which is £1050 a month, but we split up last month, so i had to make a HB claim for myself as I am a on income support now, I did all the forms and sent it off 3 weeks ago, I just got some paper work back today, stating that I am only entitled to £830,69 a month HB, which has shocked me, there is a huge shortfall of £210 app a month, I only get £59,89 a week, and child tax credits of £81 a week, I have two children, how can I afford this shortfall of £52,50 a week, i dont understand how comes they was paying full rent before when i was with my partner, but now im single, it is not?, can anyone explain, the housing benifet office is not open till monday.

Thank you

Was the Housing Benefit claim previously in your partners name? If so did you apply for Benefit before 7th April? or was the claim in your name previously?

If you had the existing claim it sounds like they have re-referred your case to the Rent Service as there has been a change to your household and they have made a lower decision. I'd suggest you request a redetermination asap (you should be aware that this may come back higher OR lower than the original decision).

If you had to make a brand new claim and this has been processed under LHA I'd apply for Discretionary Housing payments as you can't appeal against the amounts set by the Rent Service.

    Hope this helps.

The prevoius claim was in both our names, and when i applied for it in my own name, it was on 26th march. I had to make my own claim for income support, because we had split up. It just doesnt make sense how they was paying full HB just the month before, but wont now, just because I have had to make my own claim (because I am no longer with my partner) they are saying I can afford the £52 odd a week, seems mad, as i have less money now to live on than I did when we was together as a couple, I will have to look into what you said, and ring them monday.

    Thanks for your help
