Running A Business From Home

Hello there,

Can anyone tell me if it is legal to run a business from home: do we have to ask the local authority?

I am a freelance tutor and my business is expending. In the furure I will probably teach 10 hours a week of private tuition and also run one or two small classes a week.

I am also hoping to become an agency recruiting other tutors in the area.

I do all my business from home.

What are the possible problem I might come across?

Thank you.

Sandra

The main criteria tend to be:
    - will you make a noise/mess/smell
    - will you have a lot of visitors coming/going, at what times, where will they park if they're parking, will they be clogging up the road

So if you've a pupil turning up, parking in your driveway, staying an hour, then leaving quietly, that'd be OK.

If, however, you were soccer coaching on your large back lawn and had a minibus of loud players arriving every hour, banging the minibus doors, shouting, and the minibus was blocking a neighbour's drive often ... then it's a different ball game (so to speak).

From what you say, I'd not see any problems at all. So it's really a parking/volume of visitors decision.

    Probably all be OK.

    Good luck!
