Here's a link to a times article on the report here:

I'm using and have been using different seeds from different seed companies i.e. T&M, Mr Fothergill’s, Suttons, Wilkinsons, sellers on ebay and find that a heated propergator helps but what seems to help more is sowing a new variety as over 90% of the seeds will germinate.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Interesting comment, olly300. I wonder if it is because new varieties tend to be raised here (and are usually quite expensive), while the older ones are now being raised wherever labour can be got cheap?
On this issue, I read last night that the RHS reckons 80 per cent germination should be the average with peas. Neither of the two types I have grown so far this year have got anywhere near that rate.0 -
I planted the contents of a packet of Suttons Waverex (24) at the beginning of March and to date 5 have actually come through, the last one appeared yesterday. They were in pots in a greenhouse so I know that they haven't been a late night snack for a furry predator. Hopefully a few more may pop through shortly to improve this rather poor mortality rate.0

Try sowing Whitworths dried peas from the local shop,an old gardener showed me this many years ago,you do get some "misses"but its fun trying. He always started his in peat pots but toilet roll centres should do.If you think this has helped make my day and hit the thanks button:beer:0
