  • Thanks all. I'm not sure if anyone missed the date but it was 1 year ago that I bought the mattress... and my husband is fine with it. It seems that I must be one of the few that Tim spoke about.

Sprung slats can make a difference to thinner, softer, sprung mattresses but have not heard it working for memory foam matts. If it has helped Pipkin then good for her but tend to agree with TD, it's probably a slightly softer higher quality mattress. I have tried the same memory foam mattresses on solid wood, sprung slat and sprung divan bases, there's no or negligable difference in feel, to the point where i would inform a customer that paying more for the sprung base in a divan would be a waste of their money. I do back this up with the ability to place the matt on the different bases for them to prove it to themselves. Yes i'm here to sell my stock but i don't want customers coming back thinking they've paid extra for something they don't want or need...
Back on topic to the OP, Chrissie, would you consider a short course with an Osteopath to make sure there are no niggles with your back? It may be that once every 6 months they might be able to treat a moving disc or reccomend posture realignment exercises. One or two sessions may work wonders and you might get the best nights sleep in a long while.
    All the best.

  • I'm thinking about some help, I could do with lots of it!! The strange thing is I sleep really peacefully and only wake up once whereas with my other matress i used to toss and turn a lot. Any way, once i start waking up morning time that's when I feel the pain! Oh well, you've all been helpful. After all it's money saving not sleep and back therapy. It's great that the 'community' is so friendly and helpful. xx

As Mo Money says, sprung slats will only make the bed feel slightly softer, but what you really need to do is buy a better quality mattress. As for sprung divan bases, they will give a softer feel than sprung slats, but I also advise against paying quite a bit extra for a sprung base unless you actually like a soft bed. For most people a good quality mattress is the best option.
