Good morning:In addition to your basic quote, I would recommend fitting a scale inhibitor, a Boiler Buddy, a programmable roomstat, TRVs and a Vaillant Ecotec Plus 831(standard items including a powerflush in all my OH's quotes) over the WB (probably a Greenstar Junior, the cheapest WB boiler and doesn't have a stainless steel heat exchanger).Whether the quote is value for money depends on where you are in the UK...get at least 3 quotes from CORGIs recommended to you by a source you trust. You would pay more than £2500 for what I have suggested here in the Southeast. I'm assuming you've been quoted for a combi.

Why does it HAVE to be a CORGI RGI?

Good afternoon: Visit the Health and Safety Executive or CORGI websites for an answer to your question.

Sorry I've explained myself incorrectly. I know why an RGI has to be used for gas work but does he/she HAVE to be CORGI which your sig implies?
Cheers0 -
rgi stand for registered gas installer so he can only register with corgi0

if they come back and offer the junior 28i upgrade it to the 30si
we got ours installed 2 months ago, we were originally quoted for the junior 28i but found out that you cant control the water temp, the 30si you can and its i little more powerful (not much though), only cost us £65 extra to upgrade.
we were £2300 to remove the old combi and site the new one along 2 foot.

but only because they currently hold the contract?
Good evening: CORGI will probably continue to be the HSE's choice to administer the new gas registration scheme as it is detailed here .... have no idea who is on the short list: many CORGIs view it all as a paper exercise and just want to get on with the job without having to compete with the 'illegals'. If it is all really about gas safety then DIY gas work would be banned and the sale of gas appliances/gas parts would be restricted to CORGIs.

Yes that's really what I'm driving at and I applaud you for saying it. The law requires competancy but doesn't specify CORGI. The kennel club is HSEs contracted administrator of the register. Vested interests and all that IMHO.

Right...had another quote from a CORGI guy, a friend of a chap who is doing work on my house at the mo.
Cost is £2950 and includes
Potterton Gold 28 HE boiler (3 year warranty)
Upgrade 15mm to 22mm
Powerflush and protect CH system
Wireless room thermostat
Remove old radiators and replace with double panel ones and new TRV's (5 radiators in all)
Disconnect and remove 6th radiator from bathroom (small one no longer required)
Remove old hot water tank etc
CORGI cert
Alternative quote is £2150 but leaves all existing rad's only replacing the TRV's and uses a different boiler (Main 30) with 1 year warranty
What do you think?0
