British Gas
Yes again! my daughter has just moved into a rented house, we know from the previous occupier that both Gas and Electricity are supplied by BG, however when she called them to give them her meter readings when she moved in they can find the electric supply but not the gas. When she supplies the postcode for the gas it's coming up as somewhere completely different (a snooker hall believe it or not) however the same postcode for the electric is bringing up the right property.
She's living on her own so does not want to be landed with a large bill and despite repeated phonecalls and promises to call her back they have not done so, what do you think the chances are of her being able to switch to another company, I'm asking as since they can't find the gas supply would there be a problem when the switch was due to take place?

1) Can she contact the previous occupier and verify that it was with British gas and maybe get the meter reference number from the bill . Customer reference would be useful also, then BG can look that up.
2) Phone Transco 'GAS SUPPLY - Call the Transco Meter Helpline on 0870 608 1524. They will tell you the supplier and give you your MPRN number.'0 -
She's gicen them all the ref no.s with no joy at all but thanks for the Transco number I'll give them a call on Monday, she knows who the supplier is because she took over the house from one of her friends, so if I get the supplier from Transco there should hopefully be no problem in swapping ?0

Is the postcode 100% accurate? (i.e. if it is put in on a site that lets you pick an address for a given postcode - does the property show up? - off the top of my head a simple site to check would be something like virgin media)
Just wondering if the Landlord has something to do with the snooker club and the postcodes / addresses have become mixed up with BG
HTH
MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

Postcode is 100% correct and the snooker club is now a Travelodge it hasn't existed for years, the landlord has nothing to do with any properties in that vicinity. Funny how they can find the electric supply from the postcode, I reckon they have mixed it up with the road that it is on, part of it is road and part of it close, I think they have it registered for the road version, still not very good is it0

Just phoned Transco and they can't find it either although they can find the property using the postcode, the mystery deepens0
