NATWEST Credit Card?

Hello guys, I have a question, I just recently applied for a basic NATWEST Credit Card and was declined! I have a 399 (fair credit rating) but am not on electoral register (for reasons in my last post a couple of threads down) so thi swas probably the reason..... BUT I have 2 accounts with them fo rthe last 3 years so they know I am who I say I am and live where I say I do.

One of the accounts I have with them is a current account with a SWITCH/MAESTRO card with a £100 cheque guarantee card so they are trusting me with at least £100 of credit.

I don't want a massive credit limit, I would be happy with a £100 limit as I want to start rebuilding my credit file.

Is it worth talking to them and maybe pleading?

Any help at all would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks

Matt

The current account you have gives you depending on the size of the chequebook either £2500 or £3000 of credit as you can guarantee cheques for £100 each. It may just be that they think this is enough for you at the moment. Have you tried appealing? You should have got info when you were declined for you card.

    Hello, Thanks for your info.

No, I haven't tried appealing, I wanted to know if it is ever worth appealing? Do they ever change their minds?

The thing is, I contacted the council on Fri and they told me that I am able to go on electoral register and they usually update it every month BUT at the moment due to a MASSIVE backlog, it is taking upto 6 months.

So, given the fact that I have been with NATWEST 3 years, have a current account with a £100 SWITCH/MAESTRO cheque guarantee card, is it likely that they MIGHT change their minds and give me a Card with maybe a £100 limit?

What if I asked for a £100 limit and offered a £100 security deposit?

The thing is, HSBC has pretty much said I can have a current account with a credit card BUT I like Natwest, they have alays been a very good bank for me and would like to stay with them but if I really have to, I will have to switch to HSBC but I don't want to.

Any advice will be greatly apreciated, thank you.

    *****UPDATE*****

I went to my branch today and they told me that the Credit Card centre was seprerate to the banking centre! so couldn't really help but suggest that I call the CARD SERVICES!

Then I asked about an overdraft, The lady took my card put my details in and asked how much I wanted, £300 I replied, no problem, you can have more if you like! all done. Just as I was about to leave, she said "Oh, and you are pre-approved for a loan of upto £7500 if you ever need it" Crazy eh? won't give me a credit card with a couple of hundred pound limit but are more than happy to give me £8000 in loan and overdrafts.

So I called the CARD SERVICES and asked why I had been declined, the lady said that there is nothing on the screen that would suggest a rejection and asked me to put the appeal in writing with a copy of my EQUIFAX credit report and 3 months bank statements, and also explain that I only want a small credit limit and they will re-assess my application.

    So that's how it went.
