I have always bought branded products because reliability is very important to me. My lounge contains a Toshiba widescreen plus a Panasonic surround sound system and I have Sony audio products in the house. Increasingly on this forum I see links to electrical equipment manufactured by Goodmans, and, to be quite honest I steer well clear of them in the same way that I avoid buying Alba or Bush.
Can anyone vouch for the integrity of a Goodmans product. I know that Comet sell TVs etc manufactured by them. Is Goodmans a product manufactured by the Japanese and relabelled?
I would appreciate your comments.

According to https://www.goodmans.co.uk (which to be honest is a rather amateurish looking website):
"Goodmans is one of the UK’s favourite consumer electronics brands. A UK based and owned company, we were founded in 1947 on the principals of producing high quality, affordable electronic products.
Over the years we have stayed true to these values, whilst moving with the times, and are now part of the Alba plc Group of Companies.
This gives us access to world-class engineering and purchasing resources, which means that our products are now even better quality and value.
Originally an Audio brand, our innovative ranges now include Home Cinema, DVD and TV; Personal, Portable and Major Audio systems; Digital Music; Digital TV, Digital Cameras, Karaoke and In-Car Entertainment."

Up until about thirty years ago, Goodmans was a decent brand (I have some Goodmans speakers from circa 1972 and they're great, and a Goodmans radio from the mid 1960s still going strong (after the occasional valve renewal) - sadly I think they went to the wall (or very close to it at least) and the brand name was bought by a budget brand to attempt to gain themselves some credibility.....There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0 -

I'm the owner of a GDB box:

Look at the date of the first post.
We've had lots of fun over the years connecting our boxes to our computers trying to find a version of the software that works properly.
Even now, I can't let it autopgrade it's software because the latest version gives me sound problems :rotfl:0
