Council tax and bailiffs trouble
Comments

Oh how I wish I had known about this site before.... I also had problems with the council tax for something which we thought had been paid off via attachments of earnings way back in 1995 (long story, we lost the house etc and were throwing everything at the mortgate to try to hold onto it), finally after 12 years they come a chasing again. Serious stress ensued (I was by now single with 3 children at home) and the bailiffs were not the most sympathetic despite me informing them I was on income support, that I had major depression and that 2 of my kids are autistic and that any kind of visit or stress would harm their progress and offering a weekly payment. If only I had known about that letter....in the end after not being able to get sense through to the bailiff, in desperation, I contacted our council, explained the problems and they spoke to the bailiffs who then accepted a payment of £20 a week (again, shows how desperate I was, I could barely afford £5 at the time let alone £20 and went without food for myself and the kids had to make do with old shoes that had cardboard in the bottom to cover up the holes!).
OP, is it possible to try your council again? It appeared that they were ignoring my pleas until I completely broke down on the phone to them and was in a complete state. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
