We are expecting twins in July. I have been told the second twin gets slightly less child benefit then the first one. Is this true?!

Yes, you will get one rate for the first child and a lesser rate for the second. Its the same for everyone with more than one child, wether twins or not.
p.s...congratulations..May £10 a day challenge£19.61/£310Ebay challenge...£12.61/£2000 -
thanks for the clarification didnt know about the different rates0

You get a certain amount for the first and then a few pounds less for the second. The amount you get for the second twin will be the same amount you get for each other child after the twins.May £10 a day challenge£19.61/£310Ebay challenge...£12.61/£2000

- £18.80 per week for the eldest child
- £12.55 per week for each additional child

How can any child be fed, watered, dressed and kept clean on that!! Ridiculous!! And funny how they think the second twin is going to use less nappies, baby milk, sterlising solution, babygro's and throw up less times thus saving on washing the said babygro's and bibs-than the eldest twin!! I think that twins should get the same for the first year at least to take the strain off the parents having to buy two of everything!!Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!

my twins are 19 now but, this really used to annoy me too - how can you spend less money on the older twin? what if the twins were born at exactly the same time? how would it work then?
some rules are just stupid....0 -

I don't think the idea behind the child benefit is that people have babies and society pays for them through child benefit - it is a contribution
If you only had one due now, became pregnant again quickly and delivered again within 12 months it would be exactly the same - oldest child gets biggest contribution, younger one slightly less.
It is the same logic that it doesn't take twice as much money to raise 2 children than 1.I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

I appreciate it is a contribution but even so, I think that it does cost twice as much when you have twins-or am I missing something here lol-2xbaby milk, 2xcots, 2xbabygro's, 2xprams, 2xoutfits, 2xpotty etc-I reckon it does cost twice as much. I think special allowances should be made for twins. Twin Child benefit or something-just in the 1st year when it's probably the hardest and parents are finding their feet (and no doubt their ever decreasing balance on their bank statement)!Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!

Not sure you would need 2 of everything. They can only wear 1 outfit at a time, they spend much of the first year (or 2) in babygros which are cheap, I'm sure they won't co-ordinate enough to need to sit on the same potty at the same time.
So 2 car seats, a double pram (doubt that costs double a single one), 2 cots when they are too big to sleep in the same cot.................
I thought the point of children was to drain your energy and bank accounts0
