Can I claim solicitor fees

HiSold my house in August 2007 found a house to purchase paid for full surveyhad all the paperwork done and was hoping to complete in december, my buyers house sale fell thro' and I have waited for them untill MONDAY 21st APRIL, and incurred solicitors fees can I get the ex buyers of my house to paid towards my costs,I am so out of pocket because I waited for 8 months for completion and lost the house I wanted.thanksGinsmith

    There is no legislation in place that will allow you to reclaim the costs you have incurred from your buyer. You could ask your solicitor to request a contribution from the buyer, but I doubt very much if you will get anywhere.

    If you had already exchanged contracts and they delayed completion , you may be entitled to compensation if you served a notice to complete. If they just delayed exchange, you won't be entitled to anything. Just be grateful they didn't come back and ask you to drop your price!

    When you say "sold", do you mean that you just found a buyer, or did you actually exchange contracts and they failed to complete.

    If you just found a buyer, and they pulled out before exchange, then you can't claim any costs from them. If they exchanged contracts, then I think they will have to pay some costs.
