  • You can order Egyptian pounds from any bank.

  • Hi
My hubby is off back to Sharm for a weeks diving in 2 weeks time.
He booked through explorers & prepaid for his visa - £12. All we do normally is buy the visa when you get to the airport at Sharm. It normally costs about £12 (you need some cash for this- at least we always do). You just pick up a form when you get there & fill it in then go to a kiosk to pay. It's quite easy but can take a bit of time.
We normally take a few egyptian pounds & some dollars. They like euro's as well. We go to the bank out there if we need any more.
Dont forget it will be extremly hot out there!
You will have a fab time, we always do!

You will need a visa (it's about £15 I think).
You can either send off in the UK but will be without your passport for a few weeks (not a good idea if going soon).
Or get it at the airport when you arrive. Mostly getting it at the airport is fine, but you might have to queue eand pay a little more.

Personally I would want to have some Egyptian money, however you will find Sterling widely accepted.

Be careful when negotiating prices. Be clear on the currency as both are pounds. Street sellers will try to trick you.
  • Do we need a visa if we are not going to Cairo tho ?
  • Hi,

I went Sharm El Sheikh, To go to Sharm El sheik you DONT need a visa, but if you are planning on going on any Trips these may require a Visa. The Visa needs to be gotten in the Airport, You can go back and get the visa but its a pain in the a$$, so before you go think.

The hotel you are staying in i stayed in there sisiter hotel the El Concorde, i believe you can use any of the facilities. Its a good Hotel the Entertainment isnt up to much but the food and the staff are so friendly

Also i didnt spend much money they will accept english but its really easy to get it changed out there anyway. Remember to barter in Markets and even the taxi drivers.

And as for the bombs, if you stay in your resort you will be fine, also now with there being bombs the security will be A1 so i wouldnt worry to much.

I would go back out there tomorrow if i could afford it, i had a wonderfull time in a Great PLace.

If you want to know anythink elsa just send me a message.

Unless anyone can recommend another fab hotel in sharm??
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

Going to a recently bombed resort is extreme money saving, but a very honorable thing to do. We would hate it is foreigners put off coming to London becasue of the bombings and we can't be hippocritical. The only way to beat the terrorists is to show them their effors are futile and their activities will not alter our lives. Good on you.

We're going to Marsa Alam in November. Very reasonable with portland direct. We paid something like £285 each for a week half board. Staying at the Coraya Beach hotel.

Conrad. We are definately going to Sharm in November but haven't decided on the hotel. I've been getting quotes and reading reviews. We wont book until a couple of weeks before we go in the hope of getting a bargain :D
