Coupon-mad wrote: »Hi Jelly Tots!
I think mostly it is about whether the store knows the policy and has communicated it to the staff properly.
When I read that the coupon policy had been confirmed in an update to all Tesco stores last Summer, I went in to my local stores and asked...and asked...and asked again until they listened to me!
My main success was in an Extra where they have a lot of staff and one Till Supervisor had read the update I knew about. She told some of the other staff, then I kept returning and mentioning her name if coupons were refused. Gradually the message got through and luckily there appeared to be no objection from Store Management, although one or two used to give me funny looks when called to check the dates on my coupons. They asked me where I got them all from, I think they thought I had robbed a mailbag or something! :rotfl:
Another success was in a Metro, funnily enough. I had asked at CS twice, and a manager said he would look into it for me. He was as good as his word and said 'yes, as long as there are no duplicates, you can use them all' next time I popped in there. Sadly since then there have been some staff changes and misinformation about the policy, so now I don't bother with them as I have other stores who are OK with it now. But it shows that Metro stores can play ball if you persevere!
Finally I have had some success in two middle-sized stores as well although these have both had some real harridans of Till Managers to overcome. Again, this involved raising my profile and asking up front at the CS desk and speaking to Managers more than once. Even now, some of the worst staff there still try to lie about it and make up a policy - but I always stand my ground and name-drop the Managers who have cleared it for me before.
So, my advice would be to go to CS in that Metro (even if it's a ciggie kiosk as it is in my local Metro). Pick your moment carefully, when they are not too busy, and when you have time for a debate(!) with Management and when you are feeling confident & assertive. Finally, have the policy clear in your own mind and state it confidently, maybe say you 'know someone who works at xxxx store who showed you a copy of the Tesco national coupon policy and it's one of each coupon, etc.'
Don't be fobbed off by the first person you see, don't ask them what the policy is, instead tell them you know the policy and wonder why it's not being followed in that store, as other Metros do? That normally sends them rushing for a Manager, which is what you want.
And have some Couponnet ones in your hand as an example of your coupons you use 'in other Tesco stores'. Very useful to help educate those members of staff who think they are photocopies, usually you will find one person who knows what they really are, which helps.
HTH
I appreciate your expertise ! Although I hope that's not your real name, as that's probably the reason the staff are a bit awkward with you. I'm thinking of changing my name to 'Ms. Refused-Coupons' by deed poll.
Do you think Tesco's policy is to be deliberately obstructive with coupons ? It's probably in their favour to have a bit of confusion. It makes it difficult for customers to pin them down and stand up for their rights - i.e. then people won't bother with too many coupons, in case they get turned down. To be honest, I would be more likely to make the effort to shop at Tescos if they did have a consistent coupon policy, even if it was only, say, 5%. But I will persevere, and thanks again !0 -

I know there are several stores who are deliberately obstructive with coupons, like the 2 middle-sized stores I mentioned above who both know the real policy. There was even one cashier who, when thwarted by me in her attempt to insist on a 50% maximum, then deliberately took ages poring over each coupon much more than necessary, clearly to try to cause a scene with the waiting customers.
Finally as I walked away I saw that she had deliberately not scanned my 2 highest value coupons (2 different £2 ones, this was a while back now though). So I marched back to her till and glared until she noticed me, then I asked for my 2 coupons back that 'didn't scan' so I could take them to Customer Service.
Lo and behold she didn't need to check my receipt, nor did she ask me which ones hadn't scanned, she just grabbed the right ones from her till and slammed them down with no apology. She knew exactly what she had done, goodness knows why though!
I reported her when I got cash for those coupons at the lovely CS desk!
I don't think Tesco Head Office (Cheshunt) meant it to be this difficult as the policy wording from them last Summer was very clear that there is NO limit. In a good store that policy wording is held behind the CS desk, BTW.
I do think that Customer Service Centre (Dundee, who like to think they are 'Head Office') are pretty much clueless about the policy still. Sometimes I have told them what the policy is and waited 5 minutes for them to find someone who knows about it. Most of their staff don't and will just fob you - and stores - off with a made up answer.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Is anybody there? LOL!! :rotfl:
Yep I am here most days, as are lots of other like-minded coupon-anoraks!
Anyhoo, I think you will find the info you want on this link below, it's an entire thread dedicated to Tesco clothing coupons:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=455274&page=54
Looks as if the last post there by Kronen last week clarifies the situation. I haven't had any clothing coupons for a while though so am not so up-to-date on those coupons as the regular posters are on that thread.
