I've been sent an email with attachments in xls format.I found on here the excelveiwer so I could read them but I really need to print them.Is there somewhere I could download excel for free? An early version would be fine.

The MS Excel viewer should let you print the files:

You have two options...
1) Sign up for free google docs (Google it) and import the sreadsheet then print
2) Download the free OpenOffice http://www.openoffice.org/ package and import the file and print
This works as long as it's a simple file - i.e. no macros.
