morgan stanley card rejection!

I applied for the morgan stanley cashback card (2% til 1 jan 2006!!!) and was rejected due to my income! I stupidly put down my income after tax, which is just less than 10k. Should i reapply and increase my income to say 15k - do they check with ur employer or IR?

I really want this cashback!!!

If you do not earn 15k and you tell me you are, you will be comitting FRAUD.
    Be very careful!
  • I'm sure they will keep records of who has applied and you would probably be rejected again for the reason above.

No, it wouldn't be the truth. Just under £10K net equates to more or less £12K gross (assuming standard personal allowances and no company pension deductions).

Yes, but we should try to nip these "help me obtain a credit card by fraud and deception" threads in the bud!

There have been several requests on various threads recently, and even some MSE's helping, or attempting to help posters commit fraud and deception.

This is not what money saving and MSE is about, and will only serve to get this site and Martin Lewis a bad reputation.

I know that all views are our own, but we shouldn't use the vehicle that is MoneySavingExpert.com to commit, or help to commit, fraud & deception.

couldnt agree more , perhaps i phrased my reply to the OP incorrectly , its meant to imply "why are you asking if they check , when youve told us that you earn more than you told the CC company and now ish to advise them of this fact"

either way , yes , quite a few dodgy threads around recently yb

Unfortunately this is why so many borrowers have ran into trouble. They have deliberately lied on there application forms with inflated salaries and are given credit card limits appropiate to the false salary. Then the borrower turns on the cc company and blames them when they are unable to service their debt.
  • Credit card companies don't rely on what applicants say their income is when they apply for cards, because they can't verify these claims. No credit card form application form that I've ever seen asks for permission to confirm your salary with your employer. If it doesn't ask for this they can't obtain verification.

I have truthfully stated a pretty high income on several card applications. First Direct rang me at work on the main switchboard number to check that Mr W. Promise did indeed have a job where I said I did. Capital 1 gave me a derisory credit limit then increased it 16-fold when I later sent in actual proof of my earnings.

Nobody else has ever checked, and the limits I've been given seem to reflect my payment history and current borrowings (all stoozed, natch), rather than my claimed income.

I would think you could get yourself rejected by admitting to a low income, but claiming a high one won't on its own get you the card you want. You could always phone them up and ask them to reconsider, offering to provide proof of earnings. They usually want a few payslips plus bank statements.
