Hot water pressure

We are have our bathroom refitted soon and I am getting a list of parts that we need to buy.

We will be changing the taps and want to use a mixer tap for both the bath and the basin. We are also going to have a thermostatic shower installed.

To make sure that the taps/shower are suitable I need to make sure we have enough pressure. Most say at least 1 bar and I think we have that but want to make sure first.

I am assuming that the cold pressure (mains) is OK.
But how do I measure the hot pressure?
We have a combi boiler and it does have a pressure guage on it, can I go off this??
Or do I need to get a measuring jug out and time how long it takes to fill and then do a mysterious calculation???

Thanks, Mark

Good morning: The DHW flow rate on your combi will impact on the performance of your shower/taps...which combi do you have? Your plumber would be able to advise you about appropriate brassware/performance expectations of the DHW. Pressure gauge on your combi shows pressure for the CH. My OH would use pressure/flow testing equipment ...others might 'guesstimate' ;)

    Hi, thanks for the response.

We have a Worcester Greenstar 24i Junior:

The Flow from the current bathroom taps seem fine. Was wondering if you could work out the pressure, roughly, from the flow rate?

Good morning: Your WB has a very low DHW flow rate (actually can't get much lower with a condensing combi;) ) which is dependent on a number of factors. As your DHW is on mains pressure you should select brassware suitable for a high pressure system...see more here and here .

  • Hi Canuckleheads talking sense, invairiably high pressure taps etc: for combi-boilers and unvented cylinders, low pressure for gravity domestic systems.

    Thats for the replies.

I have already ordered a thermostatic shower which is suitable for Combi boilers so I should be ok with that.

I was hoping to get these taps, would they be ok??

When I bought the boiler I was in two minds whether to get a bigger KW one or not but the plumber said it would be OK as we only have one bathroom.
In hindsight I would now go for a 28kw one for better HW flow.

Make sure your plumber fits DCNRV to your mixer taps.
A thankyou is payment enough .

On both taps, 90% of plumbers dont:eek: fit them. You could also consider fitting a TM3 valve to the hot.
