What useful OS equipment do you have?

Hello everyone!

A quick question...

Am working hard in my quest to be OS. Doing little bits here and there and feeling very positive about it :)

In my OS quest, can people recommend any useful 'stuff' that will help? For example, I have a breadmaker already, and am thinking of buying a slow cooker. Though not just electrical stuff, but anything useful along these lines.

Any other bits and bobs people can suggest?

I bought a slow cooker about a month ago. It has changed my life! I live alone and work irregular hours as I'm self-employed, and when I'm out all day it's nice to come home to a freshly cooked stew or soup. I definitely recommend it, also because it encourages one to use lots of fresh vegetables in the cooking, and that can only be good for health.

This particular one I bought is also a steamer, so I can cook many vegetables without leaking their nutrients into the water, and a rice cooker, although I haven't used this latter facility yet.

    :)

For baking decent tins and baking trays really make things easier. Reusable non-stick liner that you can cut to fit your trays is very useful and easy to clean.

If you fancy having a go at making jams and jellies then it really is worth getting a preserving pan and jelly bag plus stand. Once you have them, you don't need to think twice about making a batch.

If you like yogurt then a simple electric yogurt maker gives consistent results for a fraction of the price of shop-bought yogurt.

    Hi Quasar

May I ask what brand/make slow cooker you did purchase? :)

Well there you go, I must have missed that (been trawling through loads of threads this last week) but there really is a thread for pretty much everything isn't there?!

Could not manage without my sewing machine as I can make curtains, bedding, gifts and clothes.

In the kitchen my food processor takes the donkey work out of chopping veg etc

I don't have a slow cooker, maybe next winter?
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
  • I know its strictly not old style but my mobile phone with built in diary is a lifesaver for me, as it carries with me all the information i need, reminders, birthdays, etcx, i can also compose my shopping list on it and it updates the one on my PC that my partner starts, that way i only get what we need.

Its organising that makes me OS

It's a Tefal Electronic 4 In One Rice Cooker. It has the settings for rice cooking, steam cooking and slow cooking, plus a keep warm facility, and of course timer. I bought it in John Lewis for £34.99.

Not the cheapest around but given my irregular work schedule I have to buy things where and when I can. Ordering online is not practical for me as I'm never in, so I'd have to trek to the sorting office which is quite a way from where I live.

That said, the healthier meals I can now cook are well worth the money I spent. :)
