NTL User / No BT Line - Advise what should I do ?

Hi.. Ive been with NTL since moving into my house 7 years ago. Ive stayed with them for the past year as I managed to get free internet for a year as they bombarded me with phone calls and leaflets offering Broadband - which incidently they cannot provide in my area. I am now looking to connect to Broadband but obviously cannot with NTL. What should I do - is it worth paying for a BT Line and using one of the other phone providers for my phone? Im not sure which ones, if any, I can use in conjunction with NTL. My kids spend hours on the phone! so something with evening and weekend calls a cheap as possible is essential. Not too bothered about fast broadband just something reasonable with out to much registration/start up costs? Any help would be appreciated.... Thanks! PS. I just find all this mind-boggling!

  • You can use https://www.call1899.co.uk in conjunction with NTL, if you wish to stay with them.Using there 0808 freephone access no.Calls to 01/02 numbers are just 3p connection, you can then speak as long as you like for free.

I wouldn't rely on that online postcode checker at the NTL website - it's completely wrong. According to them I cannot get anything from them to my address. So, presumably the Cable Fairies are supplying my cable TV, 2MB broadband and digital TV....and charging me for it every month too ? ;)
  • clayts is right. If you have an NTL phone line, they should be able to get broadband to you...
...and then the window licker said to me...

not always the case, we have a ntl phone line but cant get broadband
  • Thanks for your replies... believe me I def cannot get NTL TV or Broadband just the phone line for me. and not a cable fairy in sight! I have been through the long drawn out process of applying a couple of times! I can stick with the phone line and use call 1899 but still not sure what to do about Broadband!
  • i had the same trouble, couldnt get digital or broadband. so when i moved was over the moon when they said i could have both. stupid thing is i got all excited for nothing. it even got as far as me arranging the engineer to come out and install digital, when i ring up to confirm the time and date the woman then tells me its a mistake on their computers and that i will have to stick with my analogue and dial up. as far as i know there ar only a handful of placves that cant get it for some stupid reason i dont know why!
