Sound problem on asus laptop

Hi my friend has an asus a8h and over the past few days the sound on her laptop has given up the ghost, when she is in control panel and tests the sound it says that it is all working, it is not on mute or anything as thats the first thing I asked her! she is using vista if that makes any difference.

First thing to try would be plug in some headphones, to determine if its a hardware problem with the speakers (unlikely), problem with the sound card chipset (more unlikely) or setup/driver issue (my guess!)0

plugging headphones in and unplugging might just be enough if the switch in the jack is stuck too!0

Yeah headphones give no sound still. so any suggestions??0
